Contrail Avoidance in Practice: A Playbook for Airlines
Contrail Avoidance in Practice: A Playbook for Airlines is a hands-on operational guide for airlines that are curious about contrail avoidance or ready to run their first trials. Built on insights from technical experts and airline teams already doing this work, it cuts through the complexity and gets straight to what matters: how to set up governance, integrate contrail data into dispatch workflows, execute flights within existing procedures, and evaluate results.

Contrail avoidance is one of aviation's most actionable near-term climate
opportunities — and this playbook is designed to help airlines move on it.
The playbook is free to download and primarily written for airline practitioners — sustainability, operations, and flight planning teams — but is also relevant for air navigation service providers, regulators, and technology providers involved in aviation operations and policy.
What you can expect inside
No new inventions are needed, and it’s inexpensive. Condensation trails - or contrails - from planes are responsible for 1-2% of human-induced global warming. The good news is that if we make minimal adjustments to how we fly, we can solve this problem fast. The bad news is that at a time when we urgently need to make climate progress, we're not implementing this simple solution. We founded Blue Lines to help solve this problem. See who we are and why we do this and learn how you can get involved.
